GTSOU, the operator of the gas transmission system in Ukraine, announced on Tuesday “Due to forceRussia’s gas service to Europe via Sokhranifka station will be suspended from tomorrow, Wednesday, May 11. Ukraine Continues to be the Russian transit hub Natural gas To Europe, even after the Russian occupation on February 24th. GTSOU claims that the Novopskop compressor station could not operate due to “occupation forces’ interference in the technical process.”

The station on the outskirts of Luhansk was captured by Russian forces and pro-Russian separatists shortly after the occupation. It is the first compression station in the Luhansk region transport system, with a pipeline carrying approximately 32.6 million cubic meters of gas per day.

The Equivalent to one-third of the amount of Russian gas transported to Europe Via Ukraine according to GTSOU.

“In accordance with the terms of the agreement and the fulfillment of obligations to European partners, gas can be temporarily removed from the Susha interconnection, which is located in the Ukrainian controlled area,” GTSOU added in a statement.

What does Russia answer?

At the same time, Russian energy giant Gazprom said it was technically impossible to divert gas flows to Ukraine to a new entry point, as suggested by GTSOU.

Gazprom responded by receiving a handout that it would stop flowing at 7 a.m. local time and that it was fulfilling all its obligations to gas buyers in Europe. He added that he did not see evidence of a force majeure or a difficult obstacle to carry gas as before.

The Russian company, which monopolizes gas exports through pipelines, said it was technically impossible to transport all gas through the Susha interconnection station, as suggested by Kyiv.
