The famous Reims Museum in Amsterdam on Thursday unveiled the intention to host the largest exhibition set aside for Johannes Vermeer’s paintings, which will feature his iconic “Girl with a Pearl Earring”.

An exhibition in The Hague in 1996 brought together 22 of the artist’s works, making it the largest exhibition dedicated to Vermeer to date.

But the exhibition – from February 10 to June 4, 2023 – promises to “show more works” than the one organized in 1996, while the Rijksmuseum welcomed AFP, the director of the Taco Dibits, while saying “we will not have them all”.

Inspired by the 2003 blockbuster novel and Hollywood film starring Scarlett Johansson, “Girl with a Pearl Earring” will be borrowed from another Dutch museum, the Mauritius Museum, which will collaborate with the Rijksmuseum on the exhibition.

Little is known about Vermeer (1632-1675), who led a humble life in the historic city of Delphi during the “golden age” of Dutch painting.

Both museums will “study Vermeer’s artistic talents, his artistic choices, the inspiration behind his works, as well as the creative process of his paintings,” the R‌zquez Museum said.
