Scientists have discovered an amazing fact about one of Jupiter’s moons

Published on

A team of experts from the United States has been able to find out where the sand dunes appeared on Jupiter’s moon Io. There are about 400 to 500 volcanoes on this moon.

Jupiter’s moon Io is the closest of the Galilean moons to the planet. At the same time, this object is the most volcanic activity in the Solar System. and so Experts Rutgers University (USA) has shown that clay can form in Iowa just as it does on Earth.

An article on this was published in the journal Nature Communications.

To find out, experts analyzed photos of Io taken by the Galileo spacecraft.

The surface of Io is a complex mobile combination of basaltic and sulfur lava, frozen and mobile, with the accumulation of small particles of volcanic ash and “ice” containing frozen sulfur dioxide.

Scientists believe that the clay in Iowa was actually made of ash, not sand. They are not caused by wind, but by the contact of volcanic molten ice with frozen sulfur dioxide.
