Sputnik says power supply has been suspended because the country is unable to pay in rubles.
Sputnik – Russia has cut off power to Lithuania, the country’s electricity grid operator Litgrid said on Sunday.
Exports to the Baltic states were halted due to the country’s “inability” to pay in rubles.
Power company Inter RAO, Russia’s only importer of electricity to Lithuania, has confirmed that deliveries have been suspended. Earlier this month, Interrao’s Nordic branch also cut off power to Finland.
The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy on Friday first announced that it would stop buying Russian electricity.

Following the suspension of Russian supplies, Lithuania intends to meet its electricity needs through local power plants and imports from other European countries, particularly Sweden, Poland and Latvia, said Litgrid Executive Director Rocas Masulis.
According to the company, 16% of Lithuania’s electricity consumption comes from Russian imports.
On Saturday, Finnish gas system operator Gasgrid Finland said Russia had stopped supplying natural gas to Finland after the state energy wholesaler failed to make a mandatory payment in rubles.
