Ready to change the selection for an International World Cup in XV of Clover?

Zapping World Fifteen Grand Slam, match with Leo Kohli, Mondial 2023…

Scrum-half John Cooney made his first selection with Clover’s XV in 2015. His final selection was in the 2020 6 Nations tournament. But with a World Cup in the offing, the Ulster player wants his chance. To play it. For this purpose, he plans to change the selection and take the colors … Scottish!

Of course, Cooney has the right to play for Scotland through his family connections. His father, notably, is Scottish, and Cooney revealed to the BBC that half his family lives in Scotland.

“I will make a decision based on what I think is best for me,” he said. “I have to make sure everything is right with Ulster, especially in terms of my contract. I hear people talking (…) but I won’t listen. I know my father will be very proud when he sees me playing. For Scotland”.

In short

John Cooney played his last matches for Ireland in the 2020 6 Nations tournament. But with the 2023 World Cup fast approaching, the Ulster scrum-half wants to play it and has not ruled out changing selection for the purpose.
