Mundial2022: Portugal conducts last training session before clash with Ireland

Manchester City’s English striker was the only one of the 25 who did not make it to the main pitch of Ciudad do Futbol in Oyras to come out of myalgia to train on Tuesday.

The Portuguese selector, Fernando Santos, must call the remaining 24 people for the final work session, which begins at 10:00 a.m., with the first 15 minutes open to the media.

Shortly afterwards, at 12:00, Fernando Santos and a designated player will speak to reporters at a press conference previewing their challenge to the Irish from European Group A, which qualifies for Mundial2022.

The meeting is scheduled for 19:45 at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and will be directed by Jesus Gilmanzano from Spain.

Portugal and Luxembourg (six points) are the only teams in the Republic with a chance of qualifying directly for the 2022 World Cup, with 16 points ahead of Leader Serbia. Ireland (five) and Azerbaijan (one) are mathematically excluded from the final round of the tournament.

If they win or draw in Dublin, the ‘Quinas’ team will need to score against Serbia to qualify directly, and if they lose to the Irish, they will have to beat the Serbs.
