Spanish police were looking for 12 people on Wednesday ImmigrantsPassengers on a commercial flight fled after their plane made an emergency landing at the airport Barcelona following a medical emergency, officials said. The plane had to make an emergency landing at 4:30 a.m. because a woman on board was about to give birth and “allegedly this passenger lost her water,” a source from the Catalonia prefecture explained.
When the plane landed, an ambulance and three police patrols arrived to evacuate the pregnant woman, but a group of 27 people “abandoned the plane and tried to flee,” the source indicated. Five people returned to the plane on their own and eleven people, including a pregnant woman, were arrested.
The prefecture did not specify their nationalities. A check at the hospital revealed that the pregnant woman “wasn’t going to give birth, so she was arrested for disturbing public order”, this source added. Even on Wednesday evening, the police were still searching for the twelve survivors. This is the second such incident in Spain in a year.
On November 5, 2021, a connecting flight to Casablanca Istanbul had to make an emergency landing on the Spanish island of Majorca, in the Balearic Islands, one of the passengers, apparently diabetic, felt ill and was in a coma. 21 people escaped while he was being taken out of the plane with his companion. On reaching the hospital, the doctors found that his health condition was satisfactory, but the friend had run away. Again, the police failed to arrest all the fugitives, mostly Moroccans, and only twelve were found.
