Mexico adds anti-COVID checkpoints at the US border for July 4 weekend

Mexico extra new health and fitness checkpoints along its US border this weekend as coronavirus scenarios surge on equally sides of the dividing line.

Officials anxiety crossings for the duration of the July 4 getaway weekend could intensify the unfold of COVID-19 — even with a a few-thirty day period ban on nonessential journey that has been significantly disregarded.

“Whichever aspect of the border you live on, this is NOT the time to cross to shop, try to eat, or go to relatives on the other facet,” US Ambassador Christopher Landau tweeted Thursday.

“If US citizens continue on to make informal cross-border excursions, the limitations will boost, not lessen,” Landau added.

Health and fitness screenings in the Mexican point out of Sonora, which shares a border with Arizona, will encompass seashores and cities that are well-liked with the two Mexican and American people and customers, Gov. Claudia Pavlovich said.

The states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas — all border Texas — have each individual registered hundreds of confirmed coronavirus scenarios, as has Baja, California, just south of San Diego.

On Tuesday, a verified situation of COVID-19 in a sprawling refugee camp in Matamoros, Mexico, raised alarms that asylum seekers trying to get hearings in the US could develop into infected while they wait.
