Italy, the European football champions, wants to be the organizer of a major event in the future.

Gabriel Gravina, president of the association, said the FIGC was considering an application for the Euro 2028 or 2030 World Cup. However, the head of the association said on Thursday that the infrastructure in the stadiums needed to be improved in advance.

“We will evaluate a candidacy,” Gravina announced. “Let’s try the euro first, then think of something else.” Some stadiums have not been renovated since the 1990 World Cup, the last major solo tournament in the country. This should be done quickly, Gravina said. “If you go to us in an application and you apply to me, we can not say that we will renovate the stadiums. Not how it works. “

Four matches: Great Britain / Ireland, Spain / Portugal, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, Paraguay, Bulgaria, Greece, Serbia and Romania – have already shown interest in the 2030 World Cup. The FIFA World Cup application deadline is 2022 and the award will be presented in 2024.

The 2022 World Cup will be held in Qatar and the 2026 in Canada, Mexico and the USA. The next European Championship will be hosted by Germany in 2024.
