Irish Embassy in Brazil promotes cultural competition to mark the centenary of James Joyce’s Ulysses

The Federal University of Para and 17 other Brazilian universities will compete in the cultural competition “Ulysses 100 Pelos Olhos Brasiliros”. Promoted by the Irish Embassy in Brazil, the competition aims to celebrate the 100th anniversary of its publication. Ulysses, A novel by the Irish author James Joyce. Participation is open to undergraduate and graduate students.

To participate, candidates must create a mural painting project inspired by one of the episodes of the novel. Ulysses. Students at Para Federal University are responsible for visually interpreting the eighth episode of the book called Lestrigus.

Ulysses – Literary work tells the story of a day in the life of several characters in Dublin on June 16, 1904. Throughout the chapters Joyce describes the crises and adversities of all the characters and makes everyday life extraordinarily fun.

Renowned author James Joyce uses a variety of narrative styles to experiment with the use of language, to invent new words and to give meaning to others, and his works are full of modernity, symbols and references.

Preparatory course – The Faculty of Foreign Languages ​​(FALEM) Professor and Postgraduate Program in Letters at UFPA, Ottavio Guimaraes Tavares will teach a course on this activity with the aim of helping those interested in participating in the cultural competition. James Joyce emphasizes the chapter that should inspire UFPA candidates.
