Ireland plans to recognize the existence of a Palestinian state by the end of May

In line with announcements by the Spanish, Slovenian and Maltese governments, Ireland publicly announced its intention to recognize a Palestinian state this Wednesday, May 15. This will be implemented before the end of the month, the External Affairs Minister said.

In March, the leaders of Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Malta announced their willingness to recognize a Palestinian state in a joint statement. The EU's chief diplomat, Josep Borrell, said last week that Spain, Ireland and Slovenia plan to do the same on May 21, and other countries could follow.
