Golf – European golf professionals are 9-3 behind Americans after 12 of the 28 Ryder Cup games in Wisconsin Strait, Wisconsin.
Europeans give premieres in a negative sense: since 1979, when a European team competed for the first time instead of being selected from Great Britain and Ireland, the Europeans have never been clearly behind this time (2: 6). The day of the glorious Continental competition.
On the second day, at least the first of two sessions, the trend continued. American golfers have won three of the four doubles again, extending their lead to 9: 3, which has certainly never happened in the last 42 years.
Rory McIlroy is one of the disappointments from a European perspective. The superstar from Northern Ireland lost doubles to Englishman Ian Polter and Irishman Shane Lowry. Both games were decided after 15 matches. Spain’s John Rahm (world number one) and Sergio Garcia scored two of three points for Europe.
With the new guard on the Ryder Cup, the USA team clearly shows that many things will be different in the future. Europe have won five of the last six Rider Cups. However, this time around, the USA team (out of 12) has eight players under the age of 30, with six making their debut in the Ryder Cup.
After the last four doubles, there are still twelve singles in Sunday’s show.
