From June 1, Google Photos will not offer generic unlimited storage

(Pocket-lint) – From next year Google Photos will not offer unlimited photo genuine photo backups.

For the past five years, it has not considered a “high quality” photo against your Google Account storage share. That is about to change, Any new photos and videos you upload will be counted to 15GB of local storage on all Google Accounts or to additional storage purchased with Google One.

Google already counts “original quality” photos against your hat; It leaves unlimited backups for high quality photos and videos compressed by Google Photos for maximum efficiency. Remember that your Google Account storage is shared across Drive, Gmail, and Photos.

This change will take effect on June 1, 2021. Google has said that all photos and documents backed up before that date will not be counted against the 15GB cap – only photos uploaded after that will be counted. So, for the first time, you’re starting to worry about how much Google Account / Account / Google One storage is left. The only solution is to buy a Pixel phone, as Pixel owners can upload high quality (not original) photos that will not count on their caps.

In fact, Pixel owners have received unlimited backups of genuine quality photos.

Google will send alerts when it starts to approach your 15GB cap. Google also introduces new storage management tools in Google Photos that make it easy for you to find and delete photos, such as screenshots. Over time, Google is going to suggest a Google One storage array based on your average uploads.

The Google One 100GB starts at 99 1.99 per month and goes up to 30 TB at 9 149.99 per month. You can learn more about Google One in our guide. We have a Google Photo Tips and Strategy Guide here.

Other Google Accounts policy changes, such as Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms, and Jambore Files, are now counted against your account’s storage limits. Google now deletes data from dormant Google Accounts that have not been signed in for at least two years.
