Football: Each match may decide to maintain the rule of five substitutions

The rule can be permanent. L’International Board (Efab), The Guarantor of Football Laws, recommended on Wednesday, can switch to three substitutes instead of three with no time limit for each match, a move that has been tentatively taken in 2020 in the wake of the Kovid-19 Pandemic.

This amendment to the “Rule 3” of football, which normally requires a maximum of three substitutions per game, was decided by Efab in May 2020 and would run until the end of 2021 and the end of 2021 for club matches. For international meetings, July 31, 2022. In May, after a “global analysis of the current impact of Covid-19 football”, Efab decided to extend this action to a few months until December 31, 2022.

The temporary interruptions of many championships that did not stop completely and simply during the 2019/2020 season due to the pandemic led to the rush of the calendar for the next season, with tournaments such as Euro-2020 and 2021 postponed to the summer.

Checking for specific substitutes in case of prolonged stress

Not all matches pick an increase in the number of substitutes, the Premier League being the most notable refractor, while the English League Cup allows 5 players from round 16. EFab suggested that the number of windows to make its changes should remain the same: three interruptions in the game, and half the time.

This move is often criticized by “small” teams. The second is that it is considered to be fundamentally compatible with the employees provided in quantity and quality.

In addition, testing for two specific substitutes in the event of a stroke should be extended beyond August 2022, as the low number of cases does not yet allow reliable conclusions to be reached, l. ‘Ifab writes. These decisions have not been presented and ratified at the Ifab General Assembly in Zurich in early March.

Four of the eight IFAB decisions are owned by the International Federation (FIFA) and the other four are historic assets of the English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish federations.
