The group stage of the second round of the Sevens World Series took place A week after South Africa’s victory, the debut is a big hunt for a place on the stage among rivals. The first day of the Edmonton stage surprised Germany.
But let’s start with the easy job from Pool A to South Africa and Canada. The winners of the first round defeated Mexico 56-0, Hong Kong 43-5 and Canada 49-0, with a humiliating envelop. Second in the group, the Canadians, who beat Hong Kong and Mexico before falling with the Blitzboks, were, surprisingly, thanks to a 70-0 trim to Hong Kong Mexico.
In Pool B, the USA and Kenya dominate Against Spain and Chile, these two teams do not have the strength to fight against their two favorite teams. The USA defeated Spain 29-17 and Chile 33-5 before a 19-14 victory over Kenya in a face-to-face encounter for first place.
But, as mentioned, the big surprise is called Germany. In Pool C, in fact, the games should be between Ireland and Great Britain, and Germany that can crush the Irish. Instead, the Germans lost to Ireland 19-17, then won 19-10 against Great Britain, and before a smooth close against Jamaica, GB and Ireland split 12-12.
So the quarter-finals will challenge each other: USA-Great Britain, Ireland-Canada, Kenya-Germany, South Africa-Hong Kong.
