The second Formula 1 practice session for the 2020 Eiffel Grand Prix has been canceled due to bad weather in N‌rburgring.

The situation between FP1 and FP2 did not improve during the two-and-a-half-hour break after the opening practice session of the event on Friday morning, as Track’s medical helicopter was unable to fly safely to its destination hospital in the event of an emergency due to fog.

As the rainfall gradually decreased and the temperature rose to 10 വായ C and the surface of the track to 13 C, the FPA repeated the message, and the medical helicopter was controlled 15 minutes before the start of FP2 at 1500 local time.

Helicopter restrictions mean no track action will be taken in such situations, as the nearest hospital is more than 20 minutes – the FIA’s maximum allowance – by road.

The remaining 90 minutes of FP2 countdown started as scheduled for 1500, and the FIA ​​soon announced that the next update would be given on 1530.

Upon reaching that point, Race Control stated that it would provide another update to the 1600 and abandoned the session at that point.

Speaking to Sky Germany, F1 Race Director Michael Masi said: “We see it coming in and out all day, so we run at 30-minute intervals. [procedure] With the updates, with the local air traffic control, with the helicopter pilot, for the medical helicopter, I can offer nothing, but of course the weather conditions in the Eiffel region!

“The main problem is that the weather and humidity are excellent.

“The medical helicopter can’t go to the receiving hospital because of the fog, so even though we have a broadcast helicopter flying only around the circuit, something has to happen to get to any of the hospitals from here, so we won’t start the session from a safety perspective.

“It simply came to our notice then [for the rest of the weekend], But we also work on some backup plans if there is a similar situation to try and work with.

“We will work on backup plans and then advise everyone at the same time.”

After FP2 is canceled, teams will have only one scheduled practice session – one hour run in FP3 – before qualifying.

Next month’s Emilia-Romagna GP at Imola will have a 90 – minute training session before qualifying on the Italian track, as part of a two – day trial run using a scheduled schedule.

Autosport contacted FIA to clarify whether the Eiffel GP schedule could be changed due to the lack of support events on the schedule compared to regular F1 races.

The Eiffel GP features support from the “Touring Car Legends” who set up a training session, qualification, and two races – while the F1, F3 and Porsche Super Cup series support F1 in European events.

The 2020 Porsche Super Cup Championship ended in Monza, where Larry Tenward won the title this year, and the 2020 F3 season ended last month at the Tuscan GP, ​​where he became the Oscar Piastri champion.

The 2020 F2 season will resume in Bahrain GP and will support Zakir Circuit’s second F1 race with its outer turret-loop layout.
