European Football Union: Great Britain and Ireland apply for EM 2028

As announced, the Football Associations of Great Britain and Ireland have submitted a joint bid to host the 2028 European Championship.

The application period ended on Wednesday. UEFA wants to announce potential candidates in early April. 2032 The tournament should be given along with the finals.

“We believe Euro 2028 will be one of the best sporting events the UK and Ireland have ever hosted.” said in a joint statement. “This unprecedented partnership of five associations offers something unique to European football, including the possibility of an expanded tournament.” EM 2028 may be held for the first time with 32 teams instead of the previous 24 teams.

In February, the associations of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland announced they would not bid for the 2030 World Cup. Last year, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke happily about plans for the World Cup. However, after England’s failed World Cup bids in 2006 and 2018, he received sharp criticism.
