Mumbai: Leading e-commerce company Amazon India has been issued a notice by the Director General of GST Intelligence (DGGI). The company has been accused of making false claims on the Input Tax Credit (ITC). According to business sources, the GST intelligence unit has demanded Rs 175 crore. DGGI officials who sent a notice to the Amazon India office in Bangalore said that action would be taken against them based on the reply they sent.
The notice states that the DGGI investigation found errors in the calculations made by Amazon India. The notice states that the company first paid GST and then started claiming the refund incorrectly. The DG asked about the actual arrears in the notice sent to Amazon India. The GST Intelligence Department has launched a nationwide drive to curb tax evasion. The DGGI has recently taken drastic measures to curb tax evasion.
