Daimler and Siemens: Concentrated power

Published on

Carmaker Daimler wants to move faster with the digitization of its production, and enters into a deeper collaboration with a technology group called Siemens. Both companies say their goal is to take automation to the next technological level in Daimler production. In addition, Siemens should assist in the digital training of Daimler employees.

“Over the next few years, we want to have the entire workforce digitally qualified in all manufacturing locations around the world,” said Jog Burser, a board member of the German press agency’s Daimler affiliate Mercedes-Benz on Monday. Neither side provided any information about the duration of the cooperation. But this is long overdue.

The strategic partnership will appear primarily at the Daimler site in Berlin, where the carmaker intends to transition from a production plant to a digital showcase campus for traditional drive components. Related projects have been known since early March. In the future, new production processes will be tested and further developed in Berlin with the help of Siemens, so that they can be used elsewhere if possible. Berlin should become a digital reference factory. The carmaker did not say how many of Berlin’s 2,500 jobs would be lost due to the rebuild.

The two companies are already working together in various fields. For example, Siemens sells control software for Daimler machines. Now the cooperation should be closer. According to reports, Daimler and Siemens are investing tens of thousands in the partnership. One center of cooperation will be the issue of sustainability. Siemens should develop energy efficient solutions for dimer.

Siemens shares and Daimler shares rose slightly on Monday. For both values, the technical trend continues to point very clearly upwards. It allows investors to run for profit.
