Following the first round of sessions of the European Parliament in Strasbourg in September and October, panels of European citizens continue to function online throughout November. Their recommendations will be prepared, approved, and then presented and discussed at the Plenary of the Conference in December and January.

Next steps

The first three online sessions of the European Citizens’ Panel will be held from November 5 to 7 (on strong economics, social justice, employment, education, youth, culture, sports, and digital transformation) and November 12 to 14 (democracy, European values, rights, the rule of law and security). November 19 to 21 (on climate change, environment and health). In December and January, the panels will meet at four European academic institutions (Dublin, Florence, Natolin / Warsaw and Maastricht) to finalize their recommendations, which will be discussed at a conference plenary.

In view of the evolving situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in Ireland and the more drastic measures recently announced, the co-chairs of the conference, in consultation with the participants, decided to adjourn the meeting of the first panel of European citizens. It will take place from December 3 to 5. New dates will be announced soon to allow for active, effective and efficient civic negotiations. The rest of the conference calendar remains unchanged. Until then, all Europeans can continue to share ideas about the future of Europe through the multilingual digital platform.

Context

Panels of European citizens are central to the conference, which is organized by the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission. Joint Statement.
