Chinese aircraft and warships continue to conduct military operations around Taiwan Ministry of Defence This Saturday the 20th.

The agency said 17 planes and five ships were spotted around the island. Four fighter jets crossed the center line of the Taiwan Strait, which normally serves as an unofficial barrier between the two sides.

Nicholas Burns, the US ambassador to the Asian nation, said yesterday that China is not an “agent of instability” and needs to convince the rest of the world that it will operate peacefully in the Taiwan Strait.

China announced on August 10 that it had “completed operations” around Taiwan, signaling that it could end military exercises. Still, the kingdom said “regular patrols” would continue.

At the beginning of the week, the Chinese launched 22 aircraft into the area around the island. The attacks coincided with the arrival of a delegation of US congressmen who met with representatives of the Taiwanese government. The congressmen’s trip comes 12 days after a visit by Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
