Popular messaging app “WhatsApp” is testing a new search feature that will give iPhone users a new option to view messages sent on a specific date.
According to a report published by WABetainfo, the iOS app may soon get a new search by date feature that will allow users to search for a message on a specific date.
The new feature also allows users to filter search results by dates.
Currently, the popular application displays several results after typing a name or number in the dedicated search box in the application for all operating systems.
Screenshots detailing the WABetaInfo feature also show a new (calendar icon) location just above the keyboard.
To use the option to search for a message with a specific date, the user needs to tap on this “calendar icon” on the iPhone.
The screenshots showed that a single click would open the calendar icon and then a date picker would appear to select any month, date and year. Which ultimately enables the user to access a specific message they want to search for easily.
The report noted that the feature has not yet been released to beta testers, but it is set to roll out in the beta version (22.19.0.73) of the iOS messaging app.
According to the report, the new feature is currently under development and its official launch is not yet known.
The feature has reportedly been in development for two years, but plans to roll it out to the masses have been postponed for no apparent reason.
