At least 11 people have been killed and seven others injured in a building collapse in Mumbai following heavy rains. The French news agency reported that eight children were among those killed.
A three-story building collapsed Wednesday night (9) in a poor area of the country’s financial and leisure capital. Rescue workers search for survivors.
The injured included a 30-year-old woman who was hospitalized in critical condition. As a precaution, residents of nearby buildings were evicted from their homes.

Wednesday was the first day of heavy rains in Mumbai, with the monsoon rising over the west coast of India.
Building collapse is common in the country during the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, and heavy rains weaken the foundations of poorly constructed structures.
A three-storey building collapsed in 2019 due to heavy rains, killing 14 people in a mountainous area in the northern Indian city of Solan.
In the same year, a four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai, killing 10 people.
