British company launches rocket with fuel made from plastic waste. Pulsar Fusion, a nuclear fusion company based in Blachley, England, is behind the historic achievement. The company’s CEO is 35-year-old Richard Dinan, who is notable for his reality show.
Plastic-fueled rockets could be used to launch satellites into space and send humans into the future. At the same time, Pulsar Fusion says that their main goal is to travel to space using rockets with nuclear fusion technology. They added that the use of rockets with this technology could halve the journey time to Mars.
Pulsar Fusion is currently experimenting with a nuclear fusion reactor that produces more heat than the Sun’s surface. Richard Dinan claims that Pulsar Fusion is one of the few companies in the world that strives for such technology. Pulsar Fusion is the brainchild of a group of scientists who specialize in such topics.
The Pulsar Fusion rocket is powered by a hybrid engine. This means that the rocket will use both solid fuel and liquid / gaseous fuels at different stages. The green fuel for the rocket is made of high density polyethylene (HDPE) recycled with nitrous oxide. HDPE can be found in recycled plastic. Therefore, Pulsar Fusion has proven that rocket fuel can be made using this plastic.
Hybrid rocket engines can extract fuel from these recycled plastics. This is not possible for liquid rocket engines. Dinan explains that it is also a green fuel that does not cause significant pollution. Recycled plastic, including ordinary plastic bottles, can be used for such rocket fuel, says Dinan, who graduated from formal school at the age of 16. In 2012, Dinan appeared on the British reality show Made in Chelsea, which aired. The following year, Dinan invested heavily in nuclear fusion research. Dinan studied thermonuclear physics by hiring paid professors. He later went on to study the same subject at Oxford University.
In 2021, PurserFusion received funding from the UK Government. The Pulsar Fusion was funded by the British government for the construction of plasma satellite engines that could travel at speeds of up to 12.5 miles per second. Pulsar Fusion aims to build rocket engines within four years that will enable extraterrestrial travel. Dinan and his company dream of having their nuclear fusion rocket fly into Earth’s orbit by 2027.
