Published on

Sephovi and Gov. met with Northern Ireland’s First Minister Arlene Foster and Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill via video conference. They underscored that the European Union and the UK would work immediately to resolve issues related to the implementation of the Protocol in Ireland and Northern Ireland in order to preserve the achievements of the Northern Ireland peace process, maintain stability and create a strict border. Avoid on the island of Ireland.

Background

From the very beginning of the negotiations on the UK’s withdrawal from the European Union, the UK and the EU recognized the special circumstances of the island of Ireland. They both felt the need to uphold the 1998 Good Friday Agreement (Belfast Agreement), avoid the tough border on the Irish Islands, and protect North-South cooperation.

This solution was found in the form of protocols in Ireland and Northern Ireland, which bypassed the strict border, enabled smooth economic processes throughout the island, and upheld the Good Friday Agreement (Belfast Agreement) on all aspects of the EU’s internal integration: And guarantees.
