The fight between the Dallas Cowboys and the San Francisco 49ers is officially underway, though six hours earlier than originally planned. With the twists and turns from primetime to 1pm games, both teams had to change their preparation for the game a bit, and both needed a win to stay profitable to some extent in the play-off hunt. A loss to the Cobo Boys completely eliminates them from the play-off dispute, and causes the 49-year-old to bury their older rival and send him to an early office. It also happens in the opposite of the Cowboys, knowing a win against San Francisco and the Arizona Cardinals’ win and draw will start preparing head coach Kyle Shanahan for the independent agency and the 2021 NFL draft.
The two legacy franchises that entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations and expectations – the 49 players who literally played in the last – are now backed by football life, with only one surviving Sunday afternoon. When the superstars on both teams are set aside for this, the challenge of avoiding a tomb becomes even more terrifying.
