Suddenly the trainer himself came out of the swirling door!
The 25 members of Bayer Leverkusen’s UK Fan Club were shocked when Gerardo Zion, 43, exited the VIP West entrance at 2pm on Friday. The Bayer coach found out about the visiting supporters from England and Ireland and personally greeted them on the tour of the stadium.
Swiss answered questions and photo requests were granted. Stark: When he heard that it was a fan’s birthday, he hit Zion with a “Happy Birthday”. The meeting was an unforgettable experience for Bayer fans from the island, where five more players will join the match against Freiburg.
“Enjoy and support us. Thank you for coming,” Zion said in his farewell.
For the home game against Freiburg, the fans’ motto “Red at the end” is applied at the end. When asked at the press conference if Zion would also be on the sideline in red, the coach said with a smile: “I will not change my clothes now. Red on top doesn’t suit me, maybe with socks. ” At least!
It is clear that the Freiburg game about the departure of sports boss Rudy Waller (62) must have been very emotional.
Zion: “If possible, we want to win for our fans and Rudy. We all lived in our home from his experience and knowledge. We all know what Rudy has achieved – not just for Bayer 04, but for German football.” And: “I feel like playing this last game.”
