Kozhikode: The accused in the case of stealing 15 phones from a mobile phone shop in Kodancherry have been arrested. The two accused in the robbery were arrested by a police team led by Thamarassery DySP Ashraf Thengalakandi. The arrested are Muhsin (20) of Kottakuthu house, Mukkam Muringampurai and Ajaz (20) of Poovathikal house, Muringampurai. The robbery took place at 2.50 am on November 2 in Kodancherry town.
The theft happened after he was sprayed into a CCTV camera. The battery-powered angle grinder for cutting the lock was bought online from Flipkart for Rs 5,800. The gang later sold seven phones at mobile shops in Areekode, Coimbatore, Tirur, Kalpetta and Kunnamangalam. A copy of the fake driving license in the name of Roshan, a native of Kannur, which was downloaded from the internet, was given to the accused by the accused in the shops where the phone was sold as an identity document.
The money received was distributed among the accused. Three stolen phones were recovered. Defendants testified that the theft was done to change the temporary financial hardship. The suspects were taken into custody by the Crime Squad and taken to the police station for questioning.
After realizing that the police would seize them, the accused tied the remaining eight phones in a plastic bag and threw them into the Iruvazhinyipuzha under the Chennamangallur bridge on the fourth day. Police searched the area but did not find any. The accused were produced in the Thamarassery JFCM 2 court and remanded.
Police said he was taken into custody and will be further investigated. Kodancherry Inspector KP Praveen Kumar, SIs KC Abhilash, V Padmanabhan, CPO Jinesh Kurian, Sanal Kumar CK and Crime Squad SIs Rajeev Babu and Suresh VK led the team led by Thamarassery DySP Ashraf Thengalakandi.
