Air Force Spokesperson in Taiwan Says China Is Ready to Protect Its Sovereignty | the world

China will “resolutely protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” an air force spokesman said Sunday, referring to Taiwan, where tensions are rising on the autonomous island.

State media quoted air force spokesman Shen Jingke at a military air show as saying the air force has several types of fighter jets capable of covering “our motherland’s precious island”.

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, number three in the presidential race, signaled on Friday that she is embarking on a trip to Asia. They did not mention Taiwan, but speculation about a visit there has increased in recent days, fueling tensions.

Pelosi’s office said she will visit four Asian countries starting this Sunday, not to mention Taiwan amid intense speculation that she might visit the autonomous island claimed by China.

Nancy Pelosi is leading a congressional delegation to the Indo-Pacific region, including visits to Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan, the deputy’s office said.
