After the nail biting against Ireland: German hockey women in the semifinals of the European Championship.

Published on

The German women’s hockey team reached the semifinals of the European Championships in Belgium, following in the footsteps of their male colleagues. However, in the final group match against Ireland on Wednesday, it took a lot of effort before they could score enough points to advance 1-1 (1-1) against their followers.

The German hockey women are thrilled to have reached the semi-finals.

Pia Mertens (eighth minute) put the DHB women ahead from the start, but Sarah Hoksho equalized (22) and the Irish lost a goal. Germany (5 points) advanced to the semi-finals as group runners-up behind England (7). There they face Spain on Friday, beating Belgium 1-0 and then unexpectedly advance to the Netherlands, the holders now facing England, after the preliminary round.

“We made life difficult for ourselves,” Captain Jane Mർller-Wyland said of himself. In fact: DHB ladies have to blame themselves, it’s a nail in the coffin for them. In addition to the misfortune, there was also incompetence when Hannah Gablock and Kira Horn (22nd) hit the left post and then the right post within seconds.

Eight penalty corners went unused. To make matters worse, Nike Lawrence lost a seven-meter shot to the Irish goalkeeper (56th). Finally, on the 14th attempt, the DHB women reached the EM semis. “We’re happy with that,” Jane Mുള്ളller-Wyland said with relief.
