Bac + 4 in Selfies, Dance and Marketing A university in Central Ireland has launched a new four-year “Content Creation and Social Media” course at the start of the September academic year. He quickly found success as he applied for only 30 places when 350 of the students arrived.

Among them, Marta Hughes Bravo of the South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow, who praised this new proposal: “A lot of people think it's easy to make an influence, which is posting 60-second videos on TikTok. . But it's so much more than that! », the student insists. Content creation “involves editing, planning, organizing, etc., and it takes a lot more time than you think, and people don't really understand that,” she insists.

“Big appetite” for this kind of course

The course was created by Irene McCormick, a former television producer. She also ventured into teaching, offering an intensive course each summer led by Tick Talkers. “The project was an incredible success and we saw that there was a huge appetite, so we decided to go to the diploma level,” she explains, before adding that the phenomenon “takes a lot of scope.”

This is the first training of its kind in Ireland. According to her, most students are already immersed in the digital world but are looking for additional tools and knowledge: “You can try to study at home, but get practical and theoretical knowledge on how to reach the target audience. Make a big difference in your career,” she says.

Video, Psychology and Storytelling courses

These unique studies teach influencers how to turn their presence and content on platforms like Instagram, TikTok and YouTube into a source of income. After two years of preparation, the course was approved and welcomed its first batch of 15 students last month. Degree courses include video creation, entrepreneurship, psychology, storytelling courses, data analysis and podcast production.

“We're interested in how you can monetize your influence with a large online audience,” explains Irene McCormick, whose career prospects following the training are multiple. “Today 70% of marketers consider influencers to be the future of marketing, and governments are also using them to get messages across,” she emphasizes. “Influencers' posts on social media can sometimes be frivolous, but the act itself is not, it's a very serious business.”
