The layoffs of up to 60 workers and the operation of the skeletal system are one of the major theatrics in York.
The Grand Opera House on Clifton Street in York has not been able to perform live since the lockdown began.
It is estimated that 11 full-time staff and 50 casual workers have been affected.
Some of the employees who are likely to be brought back to the company in the coming months are on temporary dismissal.
The company said the venue does not have the support of the government or the Arts Council as a commercial operator as part of the Ambassador Theater Group Group (ATG) other than the Farlow scheme.
The team contacted a number of officials to announce their dismissal.
In a statement, an ATG spokesman said: “In the context of closed theaters, it is not clear when production will be stopped and reopened without keeping a social distance.
The ATG informed the persons working in their venues that they will be required to pay short term employment and termination clause as per the contract after the completion of the Government Job Retention Scheme.
A support team exists that includes theater activities, programming, marketing, ticketing, IT, finance, HR, and other areas to maintain operational readiness. ”
