Arsenal ‘evolution’ without Ozil forces Arteta

Published on

Mesut Ozil, the club’s highest paid player for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup victory in Leicester, has been left out of the squad again, with Arsenal manager Michael Arteta saying:

Christian Fuchs’ own goal made seven changes to the Gunners King Power Stadium, giving the late Eddie a 2-0 victory over the top-in visitors.

Despite these changes, Ozil, Matteo and Gundosico, who have yet to get a single ball this season, have not found a place in the match team.

Ozil, who reports he will earn $ 350 a week until his contract expires next June, has started all Premier League games under Arrudeta since the Kovid-19 lockdown in March, before the lockdown.

Asked why the World Cup winner was not in favor, Arteta replied: “The team is evolving and you can see the level they are achieving.

“We are here now. We want to develop more, play better and compete better. We need to maintain that.

“I am happy with the performance here and how difficult it is for the coaching staff to select a team.

“We pick the players we believe are the best for each game. You can see we continue to train, and that’s what we’re trying to do.

“We see players who change, we use, and it’s very difficult to create a team every week, not just for Mesut, but for some other players. Every week we try to pick the right players.

“Of course I understand and respect your questions, but I must try to do my job as reasonably as possible. In my opinion I try to pick the best players.”

Arsenal will face Lincoln or Liverpool in the fourth round, with two quick trips to Anfield for Arteta and the players if Jurgen Klopp’s Reds win on Thursday.

The Premier League game on Monday night was moved to Kickoff at 8pm in line with the new Covid guidelines for pub closing times in England.

“You can imagine it’s the hardest place to go in Europe or in the world. That’s the competition.

“Let’s go first on Monday. Let’s prepare well and see how it goes.”

Brendan Rogers

When Arteta changed his pack, Lester Boss Brendan Rogers played with a new deck, showing 11 changes since the Fox team beat Burnley on Sunday.

“If we lose a game, I think we will lose that way based on the players showing great energy in the game,” Rogers said following the defeat.

“There were quality moments in it, the first minute of the season there were a lot of players but the integration of the team was very good.

“I’m disappointed in the goals. That’s the criticism – the two goals we lost.”

Wilfred NDD was not included for Leicester, revealing that Rogers could replace Nigeria International for up to 12 weeks.

“We’m waiting to find out more about this, but he could be six to 12 weeks,” he said.

“It’s a kidnapping injury – it could have come from a bone, it could have been a bad injury, so we’ll have to wait until an operation is needed – it’ll be 12 weeks.”
