LONDON, Sept. 23 – Tottenham ended their League Cup draw at Orient yesterday. Two of their league rivals tested positive for the corona virus.

Jose Mourinho’s team announced that the English Football League had postponed two hours before the third round match at the Briar Group Stadium.

The Orient had already closed their training ground as a result of the virus spreading to their first team.

“The Carabao Cup match between Leighton Orient and Tottenham Hotspur tonight is not going as scheduled tonight,” an Orient statement said.

“There are discussions going on between the concerned stakeholders about the implications of the matches not taking place tonight and more updates will be given in due course.

“Layton Orient and EFL officials are conducting a comprehensive review of the club’s Covid-19 safety procedures with the aim of reopening the stadium and training ground as soon as possible.”

Tottenham could be ruled out of the fourth round against Chelsea Bournemouth under League Cup rules.

Orient wants to rearrange the tie, but there is little room to accommodate it as the next round is scheduled for next week.

The Fourth Tier Club had revealed positive cases on Monday. There have been reports that Tottenham have paid for their opponents’ scrutiny after Orient’s game against Mansfield on Saturday.

As is still the case in the Premier League, football league clubs do not have to carry out mandatory checks on their players and staff for the Covid-19 on a weekly basis this season.

Tottenham will not be disappointed that Mourinho ended the match in the midst of a five-game rush within 10 days of being branded “crazy”.

They play in Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday and will travel to Macedonia for the third qualifying round draw of the Europa League. – AFP
