The NBA is targeting November 18 as the new date for the draft of Lake Buena Vista, FLA-2020, according to a memo received by ESPN that talks with league owners and general managers have not been finalized in special meetings on Thursday and Friday.
On October 16, the NBA and the National Basketball Players’ Association discussed the memo “Revised 2020 NBA Draft Date” as a temporary replacement. The delay will allow the League and the Union to discuss and approve amendments to the collective bargaining agreement by 2020. -21 salary limit and that luxury tax limit.
The agency did not mention the agency in the memo and did not discuss a new date with the NBPA, sources said. The start of the independent agency is expected to follow relatively soon after the draft.
The teams had significant concerns that the mid-October draft would leave them without the necessary information about future pay scales to run the usual draft night business of trading, buying picks, selling and picking players.
Sources said the dramatic loss in current and expected league revenue could lead to fluctuations in salary cap numbers from previous forecasts and that the league and the union will begin to discuss these figures sincerely once the 2019-20 season audit is completed.
The NBA also wants to give teams time to do more pre-draft preparation, including sources expecting the virtual regional player to be integrated. The teams hope to share more information about the league’s ability to interact with players in person soon.
This is the second delay in the draft, which was originally scheduled for June 25.
Based on the latest information on the corona virus pandemic, the NBA and NBPA need to discuss a new start date for this season from December 1st. The league’s goal is to play as many games as possible next season with fans on stage if possible.
