Aer Lingus canceled hundreds of flights till Sunday

In Ireland, Aer Lingus is canceling up to 20% of its flights because of the action taken by pilots over a pay dispute.

Be careful if you fly to Ireland in the coming days. Hundreds of flights from Irish airline Aer Lingus will be canceled between Wednesday and Sunday following social distancing by pilots. The Irish Airline Pilots Association (IALPA) is demanding a 24% pay rise to cover inflation. Their last hike was in 2019.

As part of this social act, the pilots refuse to alter their duty schedules or work overtime. An eight-hour strike has also been announced on Saturday. Aer Lingus has already canceled 270 flights, affecting around 35,000 passengers.

Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris urged parties on Tuesday to open talks to avoid “total chaos” for travelers at the start of the summer holidays. There will be “very little sympathy” for the pilots involved in the movement, which will cancel family holidays and disrupt the tourism sector, warned Simon Harris, speaking to reporters in Dublin.

Irish Employment TribunalResponsible for solving social conflicts, on Tuesday, after meeting separately with the parties, indicated that it will not intervene in this conflict for the time being.
