On the Irish side, the counting of European results may take several days – Euractiv FR

Counting for Ireland's European elections ended on Sunday (June 9) evening, with no candidate confirmed as elected as the final results won't be known for several days as multiple ballots are counted.

Before closing night, officials announced the initial count for the four-seat Dublin constituency. By Barry Andrews Fianna Fail (Update) and Regina Doherty Fine Gael (European People's Party/EPP) is likely to reach one seat, while several candidates from all walks of life will compete for the final two seats. These include Ciaran Cuffe, MEP from the Greens and Claire Daly from the Left.

The first figures for two other Irish constituencies will not be announced until Tuesday (June 11).

Local elections

The country also voted in local elections, most of which took place on Sunday evening.

The two main parties in power – The Fine Gael and Prime Minister Simon Harris Fianna Fail – performed well and are expected to finish 1st and 2nd respectively.

On the contrary, the Sinn Féin(Left) The main opposition party did not achieve the expected results.

The victory of the ruling parties and the weakness of the opposition has fueled speculation that the government may call early national elections. These should not be later than end of March 2025.

However, Simon Harris has made his stance on early national elections clear “no change”. The Prime Minister had earlier said that the government should complete its mandate.
