“Tito,” a cat lost on a domestic flight, prompted Bolivian authorities to send officers to find him and fine him thousands of dollars. The Regulatory Authority for Telecommunications and Transport (ATT) technical director Juan Manuel Chavarria said this Tuesday that Bolivian airline BOA will be investigated if it deviates from protocols for transporting pets.

– If any kind of non-compliance is proven, a fine of about 72,000 Bolivianos (equivalent to R$ 55,000) can be imposed – said the official, “Tito” and his owner Andrea Ituri left on December 8 in the city of Tarija. (far south) to the city of Santa Cruz. The animal was placed in a cargo environment, but upon reaching its destination, she discovered that her beloved pet was missing.

The owner launched a campaign on social media to find the neutered black and white cat.

The message went viral on the networks with a clamor to find the cat.

“Bolivia wants to know where Tito is”, “Poor cat Tito” and “What a pity for the owner, he looks like he’s suffering”, are some of the phrases that circulated next to his photo.

Images of the animal were posted on Andrea Ituri’s Facebook page with the message “Help me get back to my mother”.

Even Bolivia’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport, which has jurisdiction over air navigation, echoed that, noting that its minister, Edgar Montano, had instructed all institutions in the sector to “find Tito the cat.”

Opened tuna cans have been placed around Tarija’s Oriel Lea Plaza airport, which could attract Tite, the government said.
