Neighbors and England rivals Ireland particularly enjoyed the Three Lions’ elimination against France.

England is bitterly hated by its neighbours. So inevitably, the Three Lions’ exit against France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup delighted the Irish.

Immense joy from the Irish pub at Kane’s missed penalty

In a video posted on Twitter by a certain @MrPaddyMurphy, the Irish can be seen celebrating Harry Kane’s missed penalty just minutes from the end of the match as if Ireland had scored a goal for themselves.

Famous Irish airline Ryanair also mocked England’s exit on Twitter.

“They’re coming home #NothingToDeclare,” reads a photo posted on Ryanair’s Twitter account, which translates to “They’re coming home. #NothingToDeclare “. The English return to the World Cup trophy in their luggage. Ryanair took to the troll by writing ‘Southgate’ to point the way to England in reference to Three Lions manager Gareth Southgate.

Ireland even forgives Thierry Henry’s hand

The Twitter account @IrishUnity posted a photo of Thierry Henry controlling the ball with his hands during the second leg of a 2010 World Cup qualifier, writing “all will be forgiven” (“all will be forgiven” in French).

During this match, France sent Ireland off with a goal that the referee should not have allowed. Thierry Henry controlled the ball with his hands before serving William Gallas for the equalizing goal synonymous with World Cup qualification in South Africa.

For the Irish, France’s victory over England helps ease Thierry Henry’s frustrations.

France also supported other British Isles. The Old Alliance, an alliance between France and Scotland against England since 1295, is how two Scottish sympathizers traveled to Qatar to support France against England.
