Covid in China: Heartbreaking pictures of workers fleeing the iPhone factory

Published on

China’s latest health restrictions to combat the Covid pandemic are creating strange scenes.

Run for your life. Zhengzhou, a Foxconn factory that makes iPhones and employs about 200,000 people, has been hit by discontent over strict measures taken to contain the spread of the virus. Has been staffed forced to limit the work.

Unable to support these harsh conditions, many employees fled the institution. Some of that can be seen in footage shared by BBC China correspondent Stephen McDonnell Climbing fences to escape of the site.

“total mess”

A 22-year-old worker said Financial Times was “Total trouble in the dorms” where He and his colleagues were taken into custody. “We jumped over the plastic fence and the metal fence to get out of the campus.”

Production of iPhones at the factory will drop by 30% in November, and Taiwan-based Foxconn, formerly Hon Hai Precision Industries, is trying to ramp up production at a factory in Shenzhen to make up for the shortfall, a person with direct knowledge of the matter said. According to the agency Reuters.
