World leaders echoed Lula’s victory

The choice of Luis Inacio Lula da Silva (PT)This Sunday (30/10), heads of state from around the world had their say. US President Joe Biden highlighted the credibility of the Brazilian election and expressed interest in developing initiatives between the two countries..

“Congratulations to Luís Inacio Lula da Silva for being elected the next president of Brazil after a free, fair and credible election process. I look forward to working together to continue the cooperation between our countries in the coming months and years,” Biden wrote in a White House note released by the U.S. Embassy in Brazil.

Luis Inacio Lula da Silva was elected this Sunday with 50.88% of the vote. He defeated Jair Bolsonaro in re-election with a score of 49.12%.

French President Emmanuel Macron also commented on PT’s success. After the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) declared Lula elected, the French leader took to social media to congratulate Brazil’s next president.

“Dear Lula, congratulations on your election that opens a new chapter in Brazil’s history. “We will join forces together to face many common challenges and renew the bond of friendship between our two countries,” he published.

Another European Union member state leader, the Spanish president, signaled to Lula. “Congratulations, Lula, on the victory in this election that Brazil decided for progress and hope. Let’s work together for social justice, equality and climate change. Your victory will belong to the Brazilian people,” Pedro Sánchez wrote on Twitter.

Among Latin American nations, Lula was hailed by Argentina’s President Alberto Fernandez, who linked PT’s victory to “a new time in the history” of the continent. “A time of hope and a future that begins today. “Here you have a partner to work with and dream big for a better life for our people,” said Argentina’s leader.
