Gaelic Football Bro Lyon

Gaelic football, Ireland’s most popular sport, has been established in France and particularly Brittany for over a decade. Played nine against nine on a football field whose goals are surmounted by rugby-type posts, the object of the game is to score more points than your opponent (1 point for a drop, 3 for a football-type goal). Most of the time when carried by hand, the ball can be sent to the feet, either through a pass or a strike. It is fast, technical and mixes football, rugby, handball and sometimes even volleyball.

In Brest, the Gaelic Football Bro Lyon has existed since 2000. It was the first club in the world founded by a non-Irish. The men’s team plays in D2 of the Brittany Championship. Last year, it won the “Brittany Challenge”, i.e. the second division Brittany Cup. Brestois’ next meeting is the Brittany Cup at Pontevedra on October 1. Afterwards, Bro Leon will fly to Galicia to compete in the European Club Cup.

The women’s team, when it exists, develops under the name “Breiche Issel” in agreement with the clubs of Lorient and Vannes.
