A video posted this weekend has attracted attention and generated many comments on social media, showing a commercial plane leaving the runway on its takeoff moments before another one lands on the same runway.

In this case, it’s a recording made on the ground aligned with the runway at Itami Airport in Osaka, Japan:

As seen in the footage above, it is noted that a Boeing 737 begins its take-off run and while still making its ground change, a Boeing 777 already appears on the short final approach for landing.

When the first leaves the track, no more than 7 or 8 seconds elapse before the second touches the ground.

The situation calls for attention because it is not very common for two aircraft to take off and land on the same runway with such a short time difference. With this, many have questioned whether there is any danger that, for example, in the case of a trip, two aircraft will fly too close together, possibly below the minimum separation distance.

However, since Just Planes did not provide specific details about the situation, described only as “very close to Osaka Airport’s runway,” no conclusions can be drawn about the operation. Could they be two normal commercial planes? Was there any prior coordination? Is this procedure normal at this airport? Has there been an operational failure?
