How was the ocean 100 light years away from Earth discovered?

Scientists from the University of Montreal in Canada have discovered a beautiful ocean world like in the movie Star Wars (Star Wars). Named TOI-1452b, the planet is only 100 light years from Earth. The entire planet is covered with a very thick layer of water and is located far enough from the Sun that life seems likely to develop here.

This planet is slightly larger in size and mass than Earth. Besides being covered by water, it is located at the perfect distance from the sun to neither get too hot nor too cold. That means this place could fully support life, although it’s still unknown what kind of life could survive and thrive on such a watery world.

This is not the first time we have seen an entire planet or celestial body covered in water. Some moons of Jupiter and Saturn are also covered in thick water. However, it is not possible to say for sure whether this water world is actually an ocean or not, or just a solid layer of water and rock just below.

Initially, researchers discovered this ocean world using the US space agency’s TESS space telescope. Because a brighter region is seen in the sky, researchers believe that a planet larger than Earth is likely to be found in that brighter region. So they started looking more closely and eventually found TOI-1452b.

This ocean world itself is located about 100 light-years from our planet in a binary star system in the constellation Draco. Precisely because it is so close and appears to be covered in water, it may be one of the planets that scientists hope to advance their research into conquering by spacecraft.

Based on data collected from other observatories, the researchers say this ocean world could be as rugged as Earth. However, it has a thick layer that covers most of its surface, and this water also makes up most of its mass.

Right now, they can’t confirm, but with observational data from the James Webb Telescope, researchers can draw more conclusions about this new planet.
