Maserati will drop the Ghibli in favor of Ferrari’s V8 engine

Published on

Italian sports luxury carmaker Maserati has revealed that the third generation of the Ghibli sedan will be its last, with the long-standing Ferrari V8 engine also disappearing from the range.

The Maserati Ghibli will retire in 2024, but won’t be without a successor, as the manufacturer plans to fill the void with the new-generation Quattroporte. Expected to arrive in 2025, the model will be downsized to the size of the current Ghibli and have electric drive.

This means that instead of two sedans, Maserati’s offering will only have one, but this is not news yet – the manufacturer has indicated that it will be the 3.8-liter engine of long-time ally Ferrari, which is installed in the Levante and Ghibli. Quattroporte Trofeo modifications will not survive the winds of change.

The manufacturer will abandon the eight-cylinder engine, but its place will be taken by the Nettuno unit with six cylinders of its own production, which develops 630 hp and 730 Nm. We can add that this engine has already been used in the designs of the Greek crossover and the MC20 supercar.
