Google Maps has introduced a new feature – Dinamani

Google today (July 27) introduced the much awaited ‘Street View’ feature on Google Maps.

10 cities in India including Chennai have featured in this feature. You can also view pictures of locations through this app.

According to a statement released by the Google Maps application, the ‘Street View’ feature has been introduced in India with the help of two private companies.

Starting today, the Google Maps app presents clear photos of specific locations through the ‘Street View’ feature for the convenience of users.

In India, cities including Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Nashik, Vadodara, Ahmednagar and Amritsar are featured in the Street View feature. Around 1.5 lakh kilometers of these cities can be seen in photographs through the ‘Street View’ feature.

The feature will soon be extended to Kolkata and Hyderabad with the help of local transport department.

The ‘Street View’ feature helps you know about local road systems and traffic congestion, the report said.

Only specific areas of 10 cities including Chennai have been brought in the ‘Street View’ feature. Although the street names are included, the photos are very blurry.

Notably, the central government initially banned the introduction of the Google Maps app’s ‘Street View’ feature in India citing security concerns.
