The original indie flick was screened in Venice and at festivals in Berlin, Palm Springs, London and Karlovy Vary. It grossed around 10 10 million at the box office. In this new version of the story, McCard plays a self-destructive novelist who takes care of his mother (played by Flanagan) after a stroke. After his book became an overnight hit, his plans for a U.S. promotional tour were thwarted when three more older women (Moloi, Glyn, and McCusker) were deposited at his doorstep.
