Euro 2028: Hampden Park for Scotland

Published on

Football associations in the UK and Ireland have recently announced a joint bid for UEFA Euro 2028. It is now clear which Scottish stadium is best suited for hosting.

After the announcement, suitable venues are now being determined, and there are plenty of them, especially in England. In Scotland, too, several stadiums are theoretically possible, but the Football Association has already made that clear.

The venue was suggested to be Hampden Park in Glasgow. The National Stadium in Scotland, now part of the Scottish Football Association, was one of the venues for UEFA Euro 2020.

Rod Petrie, President of the Scottish Football Association, said: “Hampden Park has contributed to the memorable UEFA Euro 2020, with the Scotland men’s national team qualifying for a major tournament for the first time in more than 20 years. The Scottish Football Association has decided to donate to the persuasive bid to host UEFA Euro 2028, with Hampton Park being the cornerstone of that bid. Hampden not only plays an important role in the history and folklore of world football, but also enjoys a reputation as a venue for world-class football, sports and entertainment.

There may even be another venue in Scotland. The rugby union is open to make Murrayfield Stadium a venue. Owned by the Scottish Rugby Union, the stadium is the largest in Scotland. It is located in the capital, Edinburgh. (Stadium World, April 11, 2022)
