Voting on the Senate Justice Committee of United States The country’s Supreme Court Judge Ketanji Brown split this Monday (4) by 11 votes to approve Brown Jackson’s name.
With the committee now in a tie, it is hoped that by the end of this week, Jackson’s approval will be decided by a vote of all senators.
Jackson will be the first black woman to hold that position if she becomes Supreme Court Justice.
The committee voted only after successive hearings. At these meetings, it became clear once again that there was a split in the U.S. Legislature: senators from the Democratic Party praised her, and representatives from the Republican Party asked questions to portray her as a dangerous liberal activist.
Black woman wants US Supreme Court seat
The U.S. Senate is split in half, with 50 senators from each party.
If all Democratic senators vote for Jackson, it will pass (Vice President Kamala Harris has a tie-breaking vote when it comes to a tie in the Senate).
Susan Collins, a Republican senator, has said she will vote to approve Jackson.
Some Democratic senators complained about the behavior of their fellow Republicans at the Jackson Hearing.
