New Delhi: The National Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has waived the requirement of compulsory study of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) in Class XII to enroll in a degree in Architecture. This is stated in the approval process released in connection with the admission process for the 2022–23 academic year. This discount is also available for Fashion Technology and Packaging Technology courses.

Candidates who have applied for any three subjects in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, Electronics, IT, Biology, Informatics Practices, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject, Engineering Graphics, Business Studies and Entrepreneurship will be eligible to appear for 12 years.

Rumors were strong last year that the requirement to study physics, chemistry and mathematics to join an engineering course would be dropped. This also led to harsh criticism. Following this, AICTE explained that this provision had not been waived.

The expert committee had reported on which courses could be exempted from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. AICTE officials said the action was based on this. AICTE issues guidelines to be followed each academic year.
